General Summary

The cooks work under general supervision. His/She coordinates and participates in preparing, cooking and serving food to a large group of people in an institutional setting.

Employment Standards

  • At least 18 years old.
  • A high school education is preferred.
  • You must be able to read menu and make arithmetic computation in measurement.
  • Take an occurrence TB skin test.
  • One year experience in cooking and preparing meals in large quantities.
  • Alcohol and Drug Free at all times and submit to random testing.

Knowledge of

  • The methods and procedures of quantity food preparation; kitchen sanitation and safe food storage.
  • Use and care of cooking equipment and utensils.
  • Kitchen Safety.
  • Prevention of cross contamination.
  • Hand wash technique.

Ability to

  • Prepare quantities of food required with a minimum of waste.
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments.
  • Prepare and serve food in an allotted time and on schedule.
  • Safety store and hold foods.
  • Maintain good working relationship.
  • Direct the work of others.
  • Read Recipes.
  • Prepare tasty food.
  • Keep kitchen, dining area, kitchen utensils, and equipment in a sanitary manner.
  • Lift object weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness and ability to accept shift work when required.
  • Read menu, estimate food required and prepare for according to menu.
  • Take count of meals served and utensils used in serving food.
  • Note taking and request order supplies when needed.
  • Adjusts control to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, and grills to cook food.
  • Measure and mix ingredients according to recipe using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment. Prepare meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, and other foods.
  • Cut and trim meat prior to cooking; bakes breads, rolls, cakes, and pastries.
  • Present main dishes, salads and desserts in an attractive manner.
  • Train and supervise the work of a small group of employees.
  • Enforce security measures and report disciplinary problem and/or taking disciplinary measures as necessary.

Example of Duties

1. Read menu, estimate food required and prepare for according to menu.
2. Take count of meals served and utensils used in serving food.
3. Note taking and request order supplies when needed.
4. Adjusts control to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, and grills to cook food.
5. Measure and mix ingredients according to recipe using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment. Prepare meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, and other foods.
6. Cut and trim meat prior to cooking; bakes breads, rolls, cakes, and pastries.
7. Present main dishes, salads and desserts in an attractive manner.
8. Train and supervise the work of a small group of employees.

Due to the unique nature of our type of business there may be sometimes during the workday when you are not working you will not be paid for this time. Therefore during the downtime if you choose you can work in the facility in other train position.

An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or necessary.
